Professor Bing Wu received a BSc and a MSc degrees in Computing from the National University of Defence Technology, China in 1982 and 1985 respectively. He received a PhD degree in the University of Manchester Institute of Science and Technology (UMIST), UK in 1996 and joined the Department of Computer Science, Trinity College Dublin (TCD) as a research fellow and became a lecturer there late. He moved to the Dublin Institute of Technology (DIT) as a permanent whole-time lecturer II in 1998. From May 2001 to April 2011, he served as the Head of Computer Science Department/Assistant Head of School of Computing, DIT and, from May 2011, as the Head of Asian Partnerships in DIT first and, currently,  the Head of International Partnering and Engagement.

Prof Bing Wu’s research and publications are mainly in areas of Computerised Information Engineering and Management; Knowledge Discovery and Engineering; Multi-Disciplinary Computing; and Education including system engineering and re-engineering, knowledge representation and management, and applications of advanced computing techniques to real-world multi-disciplinary systems, such as healthcare informatics and bio-informatics, as well as industry-oriented software education.

Prof Bing Wu served as a chair or committee member for a number of international conferences. He was one of the founders and co-chairs of the program committee/ conference of the China-Europe International Symposium on Software Industry-oriented Education (CEISIE) 2005-2014. He has also served internationally as an external examiner for PhD thesis and viva examinations, external examiner for MPhil, MSc and BSc (Hons) examinations, and an assessor for research grants and academic programmes of national and international institutions and authorities.

Prof Bing Wu is currently a guest professor of the Harbin Institute of Technology, China, visiting professor of University of Electronic Science and Technology of China (UESTC), Chengdu, China and guest professor of Yunan University, China and, guest professor of several other Chinese Universities.
